Volunteering Information
Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode
Animal Outreach is primarily a network of dedicated volunteers.  Dedicated to the rescue, support and placement of cats and kittens into loving supportive homes.  Without our volunteers we would not be able to function.

We have an immediate need for seven types of volunteers

Foster parents:  Our ability to rescue and provide for these animals depends entirely on our ability to have foster homes.

Foster coordinator:  An individual who can recruit, and train foster parents and communicate with them on a regular basis concerning health issues, spay/neuter dates, dietary needs, and animals available for fostering.

Cage cleaning and socialization:  Each of our PetSmart locations and our Diamond Springs shelter have cats and kittens in temporary residence so they can be seen during the week and on weekends.  They are held in cages and the cages need to be cleaned at least once per day.  Cleaning involves removing the cat from the cage, sifting and cleaning the litter, cleaning and replenishing the food and water bowls and using cleaning materials to wipe down the cage and cage door.  Another important part is the time you spend with them.  Some are very scared and need reassurance and love to be ready to be adopted.  Others just need to be reminded their stay is temporary and nice people care about them.  Your commitment could be as little as two days per month about 1-2 hours each day.  More if you want to stay and play.  They love it...  Visit our Volunteer form link above.  Indicate the best days you would like to participate.

Adoption/placement specialists:  At each adoption site we have volunteers that help place the cats and kittens in the proper homes.  It requires people comfortable talking to people.  It may also require denying an adoption (declawing, outside cats, the cat they want does not like dogs, etc.) and providing alternatives for them.  You will shadow a volunteer coordinator through the paperwork and process.  We have needs at all four of our adoption sites and are really looking forward to meeting you.

Photographer and web site maintenance:  We are looking for someone who would enjoy photographing our cats and getting them exposure on our adoption sites. No special internet skills needed here.  We need people to photograph new cats and kittens and then upload the photos and information to our website and other locations such as PetFinder and Adopt-A-Pet. You do not need to be an internet guru or a programmer. You just need to have a computer and something faster than a dial up modem to connect to the internet.  We are looking for someone who would enjoy photographing our cats and getting them exposure on our sites.  We will train you.

Web site guru:  In addition to the above we would like to find someone to update and maintain the bones of our web site and web presence.  We need good graphics, ease of use, ease of uploading information and pictures of cats and kittens and anything else you feel may be helpful.

Medicating sick or ailing cats and kittens:  We need volunteers to help with support functions.  We would love to find someone like a Vet Tech who has experience medicating and caring for sick animals and we are willing to train anyone who can provide the dedication and time.  You may have to show foster parents how to administer some medications (under the direction of our veterinarian) such as antibiotics or digestive supplements.

Volunteer coordinator:  We need an individual who would coordinate our volunteer staff and activities at the Diamond Springs location in recruiting and training volunteers at the other adoption sites.

Office Volunteer: - We need help answering the phones, checking in and out clients on spay and neuter days, scanning documents, entering data in a database, making copies and all of the things necessary to keep a business running well.We need people to photograph new cats and kittens and then upload the photos and information to our website and other locations such as PetFinder and Adopt-A-Pet.We need people to photograph new cats and kittens and then upload the photos and information to our website and other locations such as PetFinder and Adopt-A-Pet.
