Shifts available every day at A.O.’s main shelter in Diamond Springs.
These volunteers assist our front desk and office staff with their basic tasks.
Duties may include: Printing documents; putting together adoption packets; inputting animal info/bios into our system; adding emails to listserv from adoption packets and foster forms; other duties as requested by front staff.

Volunteers must attend one roughly one-hour training orientation session prior to volunteering. After attending the session, approved volunteer applicants will be sent a monthly link to sign up for volunteering shifts.
If interested, please fill out the volunteer application HERE. Someone will contact you shortly to get you on the schedule for a training session. You must speak to A.O.’s Volunteer team prior to training. Please do not show up for a training session unannounced as they will not occur unless we know to expect someone.
Training Sessions: Volunteer training occurs on the second Wednesday and fourth Friday of every month, with occasional Saturday trainings as needed. Please contact the Volunteering team at volunteers@animaloutreach.net if you wish to get on the list for a training session.
These volunteers are on-call to come in to one of A.O.’s two PetSmart adoption locations when the Adoption Coordinator gets an adoption appointment request from a member of the public. The Adoption Coordinator will send out a call to all the Adoption Specialists and whoever can make it will assist with the meet-and-greet and hopeful adoption of an A.O. cat from the Adoption Center at PetSmart.
A.O. Adoption Specialists are also needed on a weekly basis during A.O.’s weekend Adoption Events at both PetSmart locations. Folsom PetSmart needs adoption event volunteers Saturdays from 11am to 3pm and Sundays from 12pm to 3pm. Citrus Heights PetSmart needs adoption event volunteers Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 3pm.
These volunteers get on a regular morning and/or afternoon schedule to clean cages and refill food and water for A.O.’s cats at PetSmart.
PetSmart Volunteers are trained individually by the location’s Adoption Coordinator, either Jackie Silva (Folsom location) or Michelle Lee (Citrus Heights location). The appropriate party will contact prospective volunteers after receiving the Volunteer Application indicating a volunteer’s desired location.
If interested, please fill out the volunteer application HERE. Someone will contact you shortly to get you on the schedule for a training session.
