In the beginning of December 2025, dead of winter, a good Samaritan found the tiniest kitten outside, alone in Pollock Pines on the side of the road, her eyes sealed shut by infection. She was so small, severely dehydrated, her body barely holding on. Fleas covered her, but beneath all that struggle was a life that hadn’t given up yet.
Once at Animal Outreach, our shelter staff and wonderful veterinarian moved quickly and carefully. Treatment started on her severe eye infection but we were still unsure if her eyes could be saved. Subcutaneous fluids brought her back from the edge but still, she wasn't interested in eating. Our caring staff continued to offer her love and continued coaxing her to eat, drop by drop, she finally accepted—that she was safe now. But little Espresso wasn’t out of the woods yet. Just when she began to rally, ringworm appeared, another delay, another test. Her ringworm treatment extended her stay in treatment for another month. But this kitten had already learned how to fight. Each day she grew stronger, her eyes opened wide, and her appetite returned. Espresso’s purr came softly at first, then louder, confident.
Espresso is now cleared from our veterinarian, and ready for her next chapter! Ready for a family, and a forever home where her story can keep unfolding—one happy day at a time.

Ozzy was just a tiny, helpless kitten when he got thrown from a moving car. Before he could scramble to safety, another car struck him. By the time little Ozzy reached Animal Outreach, his rear hip was torn open with 5 wounds and the bottoms of all four of his paws were scraped raw from the unforgiving pavement...
He should not have survived, but he wasn’t giving up just yet.
Even in pain, Ozzy’s little spirit shone through, purring softly under sedation while our caring vet stayed late to clean and wrap all four of his little feet and flush and suture his larger wounds. Ozzy was finally getting his first glimpse of what it was like to be loved as he leaned into the gentle hands that promised safety at last...
Ozzy’s story is heartbreaking, but it’s also one of hope. With proper medical care, time, and love, this brave kitten was able to heal. Every stitch, every bandage, and every gentle touch helped him take one step closer to the life he deserves, one filled with comfort, kindness, and a forever family. Ozzy is more than a victim of cruelty. He is a survivor. And with your support, he and countless others like him, can have a second chance.
Today, Ozzy is happy in his new home where he is continuing to learn that there are people he can trust and is adjusting to a life where he doesn’t have to fear those near him.
