In the beginning of December 2025, dead of winter, a good Samaritan found the tiniest kitten outside, alone in Pollock Pines on the side of the road, her eyes sealed shut by infection. She was so small, severely dehydrated, her body barely holding on. Fleas covered her, but beneath all that struggle was a life that hadn’t given up yet.
Once at Animal Outreach, our shelter staff and wonderful veterinarian moved quickly and carefully. Treatment started on her severe eye infection but we were still unsure if her eyes could be saved. Subcutaneous fluids brought her back from the edge but still, she wasn't interested in eating. Our caring staff continued to offer her love and continued coaxing her to eat, drop by drop, she finally accepted—that she was safe now. But little Espresso wasn’t out of the woods yet. Just when she began to rally, ringworm appeared, another delay, another test. Her ringworm treatment extended her stay in treatment for another month. But this kitten had already learned how to fight. Each day she grew stronger, her eyes opened wide, and her appetite returned. Espresso’s purr came softly at first, then louder, confident.
Espresso is now cleared from our veterinarian, and ready for her next chapter! Ready for a family, and a forever home where her story can keep unfolding—one happy day at a time.
