Shelter Care Volunteers

Shelter Care Volunteers help keep the Animal Outreach shelter clean, safe, and comfortable for the cats in our care.
Duties may include laundry, sweeping and mopping, disinfecting cages, bedding and toys, washing dishes, and organizing shelter supplies.

Shifts are available daily at Animal Outreach’s main shelter in Diamond Springs.

Office Support Volunteers

Office Support Volunteers assist our front desk and administrative staff with a variety of important tasks that help keep our shelter running smoothly.

Duties may include printing documents, assembling adoption packets, entering animal information and bios into our system, adding emails to our mailing list from adoption and foster forms, and other tasks as needed by office staff.

Shifts are available Monday through Friday at Animal Outreach’s main shelter in Diamond Springs.

Volunteering Available at Animal Outreach Adoption Locations

Adoption Specialist

Adoption Specialists play an important role in helping cats and kittens find their forever homes. These volunteers assist with meet-and-greets, answer questions from potential adopters, and help guide families through the adoption process.

Adoption Specialists may assist with scheduled adoption appointments and are also needed at our weekly adoption events:

  • Folsom PetSmart: Saturdays 11 AM–3 PM, Sundays 12 PM–3 PM
  • Citrus Heights PetSmart: Saturdays & Sundays 11 AM–3 PM
  • Placerville Petco: Saturdays & Sundays 11 AM–3 PM

If you enjoy working with people and helping pets find loving homes, this volunteer opportunity may be a perfect fit.

Adoption Center Care Volunteers

Adoption Center Care Volunteers help ensure our adoptable cats and kittens stay healthy, comfortable, and ready to meet their future families. Volunteers commit to a regular morning and/or afternoon shift at one of our Adoption Centers, where they assist with cleaning enclosures, refreshing food and water, monitoring the cats' well-being, and providing socialization and enrichment.

This role is perfect for cat lovers who enjoy hands-on animal care and want to help cats and kittens put their best paw forward for adoption.

Miscellaneous Volunteering

Fundraising and Events

Fundraising Committee Volunteers help plan and support fundraising activities that benefit Animal Outreach and the animals we serve.

Duties may include participating in monthly committee meetings, assisting with event setup and breakdown, and helping with other event-related tasks.

Committee meetings are held monthly online via Teams.
Event support opportunities are available as needed at locations throughout El Dorado County and surrounding communities.

Transportation

Transportation Volunteers help Animal Outreach by transporting animals, supplies, and paperwork between our various locations and events.

Duties may include driving animals and/or paperwork between Animal Outreach’s main shelter in Diamond Springs and our adoption locations, transporting animals or supplies to events, and assisting with the pickup of community cats within El Dorado County for transfer to our Diamond Springs shelter.

Transportation opportunities are available on an as-needed basis throughout the week.

Note: Animal Outreach must have a copy of your driver’s license on file.
Volunteers may be covered under Animal Outreach’s liability insurance while performing approved transportation duties.

Just Looking to Socialize Cats?

We welcome up to two people in the shelter at a time to socialize cats. Volunteers help cats build confidence and prepare for adoption by providing companionship, gentle handling, playtime, and positive interactions.

Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Those ages 13–15 must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times.

Interested in socializing cats or have questions? Contact our team at frontdesk@animaloutreach.net.
