Some siblings are close. Coley and Sonya are inseparable.
These two kittens have already been through more than most cats will experience in a lifetime. They came to us with serious medical and special needs, and there were moments when their futures were anything but certain. But through every difficult moment, they had each other.
Coley arrived carrying the effects of trauma he experienced before coming to AO. He has neurological deficits that left him with a permanent head tilt, occasional balance issues, and is deaf. His world may look a little different than other kittens’ worlds, but none of it has taken away his incredible spirit. Coley is goofy, incredibly friendly, and endlessly loving. He has overcome so much, and all he wants is to be close to his people and soak up every bit of love he can get.
Then there’s Sonya, who came frighteningly close to losing her life. This beautiful, confident little girl developed aspiration pneumonia and became seriously ill. Thankfully, X-rays revealed what was happening, allowing us to act quickly. She needed oxygen and antibiotics to help her breathe and fight the infection, and we were so relieved when she finally turned the corner.
Today, you would never know how sick Sonya once was. She is playful, confident, curious, and full of kitten energy.
But through everything they’ve faced, one thing has never changed: they have each other.
Sonya is especially protective of Coley. If her brother cries out from somewhere in the house, she immediately runs to find him. She needs to know where he is. She needs to make sure he’s okay. It’s as if she knows he needs a little extra looking after and she’s more than happy to be his guardian.
They’ve fought through sickness. They’ve learned to navigate their differences. They’ve grown stronger together. And now, after everything they’ve been through, Coley and Sonya are ready for the chapter they deserve most: a forever home.
